A recent study published in The American Journal of Medicine evaluated the use of acupuncture to treat chronic pelvic pain. The study used acupuncture in a group of 44 men and compared it to 45 men who received sham acupuncture. Sham acupuncture is essentially fake acupuncture. The needles are inserted into sites that should not have an effect. The researchers found that after ten weeks of treatment the group that received real acupuncture was almost twice as likely to have improvement in their symptoms.

Well, statistically, the sample is small enough for the apparent result to be just chance, but if acupuncture does work for anything, that's the sort of thing I would expect it to work for, so maybe that's good.
However, if I am ever unlucky enough to get real chronic pain, I shall be calling for really powerful drugs...
