New study found that acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment option for CTS for those who experience side effects to oral steroids or for those who do not opt for early surgery.
The randomized, controlled study that was published in the 2009 issue of the Clinical Journal of Pain, investigated the efficacy of acupuncture compared with steroid treatment in patients with mild-to-moderate carpal tunnel syndrome as measured by both nerve conduction studies and symptom assessment surveys.
Zak acupuncture have very good results for this treatment, please search my blog.

Doctor suggest:Most of the time conservative (nonsurgical) care is recommended first for mechanically caused CTS. This can include local steroid injections, oral steroids, or physical therapy. The therapist may use ultrasound, splinting, nerve and tendon gliding exercises, and joint mobilization to help take pressure off the nerve.
If the selected treatment does not reduce or eliminate the symptoms after seven weeks, then another form of conservative (nonoperative) care should be tried. This could be any of the approaches already mentioned but not already tried. There is fair evidence that different patients benefit from a variety of nonsurgical approaches. It may be just a matter or trial and error to find the right mix for each patient.

To me it's shocking that they would use prednisone as a treatment for CTS. In holland the normal treatment involves physiotherapy with traction. If nothing helps than surgery would be the last option. It is good to know that acupuncture works just as good as prednisone and without the side effects, but I wonder how much better it would be if combined with physiotherapy.
In my practice in Alkmaar (Holland) I work together with a physiotherapist specialized in CTS and together we have a lot of succes in treating CTS.
By the way, Zak, which points do you use most often with CTS?
