A compound found in red wine, grapes and other fruits, and similar in structure to resveratrol, is able to block cellular processes that allow fat cells to develop, opening a door to a potential method to control obesity, according to a Purdue University study.

Red wine contains a compound piceatannol that has a structure as of resveratrol a compound that helps fight cancer, heart diseases and neurodegenearive diseases. This chemical is very effective in cancer cases and helps fight the disease effectively and quickly.

Can acupuncture help?

To investigate the anti-obesity mechanisms of EA, Chinese Peiking university has done a research about this treatment by using a rat model of diet-induced obesity.

They concluded that EA treatment at ST36/SP6 acted through ARH (arcuate nuclear of hypothalamus) to significantly inhibit food intake and body weight gain when fed a high-fat diet and that the stimulation of α-MSH expression and release might be involved in the mechanism.

Patients receiving EA experienced a 4.8% reduction in weight compared with a 2.7% weight reduction for placebo EA and 2.5% reduction for diet restriction. Significant decreases in phobia, anger, anxiety, obsession, paranoid symptoms and depression were also seen in the EA group, compared with the other groups.
